Meet The Board

  • John Mowbray (Chairman) Director of Corporate Affairs at Northumbrian Water, John’s responsibilities include all aspects of external and internal communications, marketing, media and public relations and corporate responsibility for Northumbrian Water, which includes an extensive community programme.He acts as their representative in a number of regional activities and is very involved locally as a Director/Trustee of Newcastle Gateshead Initiative, TEDCO, the Community Foundation for Tyne & Wear and Northumberland, Ryhope Engines Trust, Live Theatre and the North East Chamber of Commerce, where he is Vice President and Chairman of the County Durham Committee. He is Chairman of the Tyne & Wear Common Purpose Advisory Group, as well as Durham City Vision. He is a Governor to the Castle View Academy Trust, which has been set up to establish the new academy in Sunderland. He also chairs the Northumbrian WaterAid Fundraising Committee, which will have raised £2million since 1996 to change and improve the lives of 140,000 people in Africa and Asia forever. 
  • Ian Thompson (Vice-Chairman) Ian joined Durham County Council in 2008 as Corporate Director Regeneration and Economic Development. His responsibilities also include planning, housing and transport strategy. Ian has held a number of senior regeneration and development positions with councils across the country including Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, Stockton-on-Tees and City of York. 
  • Neil Graham A Chartered Surveyor, Neil has worked in regeneration for most of his career. Since moving from Tees Valley Regeneration five years ago, Neil has worked at One North East and is Head of Capital Programmes with responsibility for the Place Programme. Major projects Neil has been involved in over the past five years include Sunderland Arc, Durham County Cricket Club and Tees Valley Regeneration. 
  • Reverend Canon Rosalind Brown The Reverend Canon Rosalind Brown has responsibility for the nave of the Cathedral, traditionally the public face of the Cathedral's life including visitors, education, the Library, pastoral care and relationships with the wider community.
  • Paulina Lubacz Paulina Lubacz is Treasurer of the University, a post she has held since 1988 having previously been Deputy Treasurer since 1985. Before coming to Durham she held various posts in the Bursar's Department at the University of Manchester.As Treasurer, Paulina is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the financial business of the University. She has lead responsibility on the University Executive Committee for finance, estates, procurement and emergency planning.Paulina is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants. She has been a member of HEFCE's Strategic Advisory Committee on Leadership Governance and Management and is currently on the Audit Committee of the Arts and Humanities Research Council. She is also Chairman of Universities Mutual Association Limited, which is a mutual insurance organization for the higher education sector. Paulina represents the University on a number of local partnership boards in Durham.She is a member of the University Executive Committee and in attendance at Council Meetings. 
  • Kevan Carrick As a chartered surveyor and property consultant, Kevan has advised government, development agencies, local councils, public/private partnerships, investment funds, property investors and development companies, corporate and small businesses, charities, and individuals. He is a member of the RICS Regeneration Policy Panel, which provides guidance and advice on European and UK national and regional policy matters affecting property, construction, land and the environment.Kevan is a partner in JK Property consultants LLP an established property consultancy based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Over and above his primary role, he undertakes a number of other positions including sitting on the board of Durham City Vision, Director of Sunderland arc, member of the Regeneration Policy Panel, RICS;Member of the National Mediation Helpline Forum established by the Ministry of Justice, Chairman of Northern Dispute Resolutions, Chairman of The Knowledge Foundation; Chairman of Newcastle City Centre Chaplaincy and Trustee Percy Headly Foundation (immediate past Chairman).
  • Neil Foster Born and raised in Durham Councillor Neil Foster first began his working life as a colliery electrician at East Hetton and Wearmouth Collieries.  He went on to obtain a degree in Industrial Relations Politics and Government from the University of Kent at Canterbury.Neil worked with Sedgefiled Borough Council for fifteen years, until January 2009. He was elected to Durham County Council, Tudhoe division in 1997. Since then he has held various posts at Durham, including five years as Cabinet member for Education (2001-06). In 2008 Neil was appointed Cabinet representative for Regeneration and Economic Development.A Charter Trust member for the Durham City Mayoral ship, Neil is an active member of the community, sitting on a number of community management boards and acting as a School Governor at three local schools.
  • Anne Mulroy Anne is head of area south for the Homes and Communities Agency in North East England.Anne has more than 26 years experience in housing and regeneration in the North East, and previously led the Bridging NewcastleGateshead team. Prior to this Anne was project director with Places for People where she oversaw the regeneration of Walker Riverside in Newcastle.
