In line with the overarching strategy to establish Durham as a vibrant economic city centre making the most of its' cultural heritage, Durham City Vision has identified and embarked upon a number of projects that take into account the following principles:

  • Positioning Durham as a good place to do business - attracting new employers and investors into the city centre.
  • Promoting the city centre as a unique place to shop - working with retailers to develop Durham's retail offer and ‘market-town' status.
  • Highlighting the city's cultural backbone - maximising and enhancing Durham's leisure attractions, bolstering the visitor experience and raising the standard of facilities on offer.
  • Placing Durham at the heart of the knowledge economy - drawing on the University's strengths and recognition of the city as a great place to study.
  • Improving the city centre's access routes and infrastructure.
